Universal Monsters ‘Renfield’ Movie Adds Shohreh Aghdashloo to the Cast

Last year’s incredibly fun Slumber Party Massacre remake, a new take on director Amy Holden Jones’s 1982 slasher, just hit Blu-ray today, and next it’s coming to… VHS tape?!

Yes, Broke Horror Fan has put the new Slumber Party Massacre onto fully functional VHS tapes, with the limited edition tapes going on sale on Wednesday, February 9, at 12pm EST/9am PST via Witter Entertainment. Broke Horror Fan explains, “The 2021 remake of the ‘80s slasher classic arrives on VHS in a black clamshell case with three versions to choose from: a standard edition with new art by Vasilis Zikos (100 stocked), a variant with art by Creepy Duck Design (limited to 50), and a big box edition with Zikos’ art (limited to 50).

“The film has been cropped from its original aspect ratio to 4:3 full frame. It is officially licensed from Shout Factory and has been approved by director Danishka Esterhazy.”

Each tape includes a letter from director Danishka Esterhazy and exclusive introductions by the cast and writers. The film’s alternate ending will also be included with the VHS release!

Danishka Esterhazy (The Banana Splits Movie) directed the film, with the script written by Suzanne Keilly (“Ash vs. Evil Dead”). The cast includes Hannah Gonera, Frances Sholto-Douglas, Mila Rayne, Alex McGregor and Reze-Tiana Wessels.

“A new contemporary twist-filled reimagining of the 1982 slasher cult classic just in time for Halloween. A slumber party turns into a bloodbath, as a psychotic serial killer wielding a power drill disrupts the fun.”

Trace wrote in his review for Bloody Disgusting, “Slumber Party Massacre is a welcome addition to this new wave of modern slashers (Initiation, Fear Street, etc.). It’s gory, funny and filled with likable characters. While it’s inevitable that this review will be flooded with comments of the “stop inserting social commentary into my horror movies!” ilk, those who can stomach such a wild concept will find much to enjoy in a movie that’s this much goddamn fun.”

For what it’s worth, I’m also a big fan of this one.

The 1982 version of Slumber Party Massacre, written by Rita Mae Brown, ended up spawning two sequels: Slumber Party Massacre II (1987) and Slumber Party Massacre III (1990).
