Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are doing their part to help Ukraine by joining Stand Up for Ukraine, a digital campaign aimed at raising money for the war-torn country and its refugees. Brooks and Yearwood announced their involvement in the campaign — which is organized through nonprofit Global Citizen — on social media.
“We’re proud to say we stand with Ukraine,” the country couple said in a video. “Especially the refugees.”
“There’s a global initiative and supplies are already spread thin, and this is where you come in,” says Yearwood. “We need your help. We need you to donate.”
Brooks continued, expressing the need for people to donate funds, in addition to their support, to Ukraine during this time.
“We always ask for love and prayers, and please keep doing that, but we’re also going to ask you: dig in your pockets, be part of the greatest global relief plan mankind has ever seen,” says Brooks.
“Everybody deserves dignity, everybody deserves a roof over their head; to feel safe. You can be a part of that,” adds Yearwood.
Brooks and Yearwood join a long list of artists and celebrities who have already signed up for the cause, including Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and more. Anyone can join Stand Up for Ukraine, “the world’s largest social media rally for refugee relief,” by visiting ForUkraine.com. Donations can be made directly through the website, and supporters can also sign petitions and film videos of themselves encouraging others to give to the cause. The campaign is hosting a pledging summit on Saturday, April 9.
Brooks and Yearwood also shared their support in a recent Facebook live video, echoing their calls for support for the country.
“These people have nothing,” Brooks said, according to All Access. “Anything they had has been taken away. So, it doesn’t matter — a dollar, ten cents, two dollars, five dollars, two hundred bucks. Just contribute, right? That’s what we’re all gonna do.”
