Kali Uchis Brings Out Omar Apollo and Tyler, the Creator at Hollywood Bowl Show

A sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl merits no less than a special guest — or two. During Kali Uchis‘ show at the storied Los Angeles venue, the singer surprised fans with special appearances from Omar Apollo and Tyler, the Creator during her career-spanning set.

After opening her show with “Muñekita” and her Tyler, the Creator collab “See You Again” by herself, Uchis welcomed frequent collaborator (and gay bestie) Apollo for his verse on Red Moon in Venus‘ “Worth the Wait.” The Mexican singer received a lap dance from Uchis’ backup dancers during the performance.

“Give it up for Omar, everybody,” Uchis told the crowd as the duo concluded the song, and Apollo walked off stage, thanking Uchis.

Throughout the show, Uchis debuted songs “Labios Mordidos” and “Te Mata” from her upcoming Spanish-language LP, covered Latine classics, including Grupo Mojado’s “Piensa en Mi” and reggaetón classic “Salvaje,” and played Uchis classics like “Melting.”

Before the firework spectacle that would end the show with “Telepatía,” Tyler, the Creator surprised Uchis onstage with a hug and a bow as she performed her verse from their Isolation collaboration, “After the Storm.” Tyler could be seen watching the rest of Uchis’ performance from the side of the stage.

Prior to her show, the Los Angeles City Council presented Uchis with a plaque commending her musical achievements and devotion to social and political justice, along with her sold-out 2023 tour.

The appearances from Apollo and Tyler come several months after the two artists joined Uchis onstage during her mainstage performance at Coachella back in April. “I’m singing this for the people who’ve been with me on this journey, you know who you are,” she said during that show. Uchis’ partner, Don Toliver, also performed with her at the music festival.

The show at the Hollywood Bowl show arrives near the conclusion of her Red Moon in Venus, Pt. 2 tour, which also saw her stop in cities such as San Diego, Oakland, and Las Vegas. She’s set to end the tour on Oct. 3 in El Paso.

“Between swaying, singing, and interacting with her dancers (at one point, they became a throne for her to sit on while addressing fans), Uchis gave a polished and elegant performance,” read a Rolling Stone review of her Red Moon in Venus tour stop in New York City in May.

Red Moon in Venus — featuring “Moonlight,” “I Wish You Roses,” and “Hasta Cuando” — followed the release of her sultry Spanish album Sin Miedo Del Amor y Otros Demonios in 2020. She’s set to release a new Spanish LP next. She revealed to a small crowd at the Grammy Museum earlier in September that the LP will feature a “girl-on-girl” song with Karol G, whom she joined on Bichota Season‘s “Me Tengo Que Ir.”
