Billie Eilish Hints at New Album During Appearance on ‘Fallon’

Billie Eilish stopped by The Tonight Show to discuss her Grammy-nominated hit single “What Was I Made For?” and took the opportunity to tease new music. Speaking with host Jimmy Fallon, Eilish said she is “almost done” with the album she’s making.

“At some point you will know more, but I’m not going to say anything else,” Eilish confirmed despite Fallon’s prodding.

Elsewhere in the interview the musician discussed how she and her brother Finneas came to write and record “What Was I Made For?” for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

“It was so, actually, random how this came about,” Eilish explained. “I remember there was a moment last year where Finneas came to me and was like, ‘Dude, would you want to make a song for the Barbie movie?’” She recalled being surprised and thinking “What does that even mean?” The duo eventually got on a FaceTime call with Gerwig and Mark Ronson, which Eilish described as “friendly and casual and cool.”

“Greta basically walked us through the stage they were in and kind of told us about it,” Eilish told Fallon. A month later they went to the movie studio, where Gerwig showed them footage of the movie.

“She was like, ‘Anything you want to make you can make,’” Eilish told Fallon. “‘You can make anything. And if you don’t want to make anything, don’t make anything.’… She was like, ‘If you’re inspired that’s great and if you’re not that’s totally fine.’ And we were like, ‘Shut up. Tell us what you want us to do!’”

She added of being part of the blockbuster movie, “I felt like it brought women together in this way that I feel like I haven’t felt part of like that and it made me feel really good. And I also felt like it was bringing people together. It felt like we were all experiencing the life experience, you know?”

Eilish later teased her upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live, set for tomorrow. The show, which features Kate McKinnon as host, will mark Eilish’s third time as musical guest.

The singer previously hinted at her follow-up to Happier Than Ever in an interview with The Cookout. “There is lots of music coming,” she said. “There is a whole album of music coming. We’re in the final stages of making it, so that doesn’t mean it’s about to come out, but it is getting there and it’s very exciting.”
