Haley was serving as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations at the time, a post that she ascended to after previously serving as the Republican Governor of South Carolina from 2011-2017.

Haley announced that she would run against former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination for president in February of 2023, and she hung in against the real estate mogul and former Celebrity Apprentice star all the way through his widespread victories on Super Tuesday on March 5, 2024. She then announced she was suspending her campaign, though she notably did not endorse Trump.

Haley and her family will have plenty of space and privacy to plan her next moves. The estate on Kiawah Island centers around a soaring, two-story great room with a wall of windows that offers sweeping views, as well as a fireplace.
