Although it’s been years since Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani divorced, the singer still worries about how the entire process has affected their children.
“I feel bad for my kids, that’s it,” Rossdale tells the Amy & T.J. Podcast. “I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives. It wasn’t fun for me to come from a broken home…it can be quite debilitating for kids…the overriding thing is you don’t want to let your kids down.”
Rossdale and Stefani share three children: Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10. He also has a daughter, Daisy, 34, from a previous relationship.
Although he didn’t speak specifically about Stefani and her new marriage with Blake Shelton, he did mention how he approaches conversations about her with or around the kids.
“Less said, soonest mended and I said nothing,” he explains. “I’m handcuffed because I would never want to overly say anything negative about their mom. That’s just not right.”

Rossdale and Stefani ended their 13-year marriage in 2015. The pair cited irreconcilable differences in their divorce filing, and both share custody of their children.

Stefani first met Shelton in 2014 on the set of The Voice. The No Doubt frontwoman was still married to Rossdale at the time, and Shelton was married to fellow country singer Miranda Lambert. Following their respective divorces, Stefani and Shelton started dating.
The couple announced their engagement in October of 2020 and tied the knot on July 3, 2021. Since then, Stefani has adjusted to a much more rural lifestyle living in Oklahoma, while Shelton has stepped into his new role as stepfather to her sons — a role he doesn’t take lightly.
“Even though I’m a stepparent, I take that job very seriously,” he told People in 2022. “The kids see me as a very important person in their life. [When they ask], ‘Why isn’t Blake here?’ I take that stuff to heart. I’ve made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back. I don’t want any regrets.”
