Biden Trounces Trump in Fundraising With Massive March Haul

Trump seeks to narrow the gap with a Florida fundraising gala that could generate $50 million for his campaign

Joe Biden’s campaign boasted a blockbuster month in fundraising this past March, raising almost 50% more than Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee combined.

The Biden-Harris campaign generated more than $90 million dollars in March, thanks in part to ritzy high-profile fundraisers like the $25 million Radio City Music Hall appearance with three past sitting presidents. Trump and the RNC, meanwhile, reported a combined $65.6 million raised in the same time period.

The difference in war chests is made even more stark when viewing how much cash each campaign has on hand. Team Biden-Harris reported having $192 million at their disposal on Saturday, “the highest total amassed by any Democratic candidate in history at this point in the cycle,” the campaign said in a press release.

The GOP and Trump, meanwhile, have $93.1 million in cash on hand, according to CNN, trailing the Democratic Party by nearly $100 million for the presidential race.

Trump and the RNC have struggled to catch up to Biden’s campaign fundraising nearly this entire election cycle so far, in part due to Trump’s ongoing legal expenses, which not everyone at the RNC is thrilled to foot. However, most of Trump’s legal fees are covered by the donor-funded Save America political action committee under his control.

Trump is already working to lower the fundraising gap with a blowout gala to be held Saturday with hedge-fund billionaire John Paulson in Palm Beach, Florida. Tickets for the dinner, which have sold for up to $814,600, according to The New York Times, and is expected to raise at least $25 million for Trump and the RNC, though the total could exceed $43 million, CNN reported.
