Taylor Nation’s official account made the announcement on Instagram Tuesday, adding that the single and new album art will be available on all streaming platforms
Taylor Swift announced that the next single from The Tortured Poets Department will be “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
“We’re so depressed we act like it’s #ICanDoItWithABrokenHeart’s birthday every day!” Taylor Nation’s official account wrote on Instagram Tuesday, referencing the bubbly track’s lyrics. “But today is special because Taylor’s declaring it the next single from #TSTTPD! Lights, camera, bitch, listen to see the cute new cover on all streaming platforms.”
Swift’s new cover art features a still image from one of her Eras tour performances, showing her in a shimmering top and metallic blazer and surrounded by showgirl feathers. The “synth-disco Vince Clarke homage,” as Rolling Stone’s Rob Sheffield puts it in the album review, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on May 4 and has spent 12 weeks on the charts.
The Jack Antonoff co-produced track also marked the song during which Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce made his onstage debut at the Eras tour. Right before “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” began during a London performance, Kelce appeared in a top hat and tuxedo, grinning as he helped Swift, alongside her dancers, get ready for her next musical number. Kelce later recalled pitching the idea of joining Swift onstage to the singer during an episode of his podcast New Heights, “I was just like, ‘What? I would love to do that, are you kidding me? I’ve seen the show enough — might as well put me to work here.’”
In April, Swift announced “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone as the first single off TTPD. Swift and Malone then released an acoustic version of the collaborative single on July 9.
