The Librarians: The Next Chapter Moves to TNT

Exciting news for fans of The Librarians!

The TNT fantasy series wrapped up its four-season run in 2018, but the network just announced that it’s acquired the rights to the upcoming spinoff, The Librarians: The Next Chapter.

In a press release issued today, producers revealed that the franchise will make “a triumphant return to its roots” on the network where it all began.

“Our comeback to TNT with this franchise holds immense significance for us and we are thrilled by TNT’s dedication to fans by offering them the continuation of one of their beloved fantasy series,” said producer Dean Devlin.

“The new series centers on a ‘Librarian’ from the past, who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent,” reads the release.

“He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians. The new series stars Callum McGowan (Jamestown), Jessica Green(The Outpost), Olivia Morris (Hotel Portofino) and Bluey Robinson (Britannia). Caroline Loncq (Mammals) guest stars.

“Christian Kane will reprise his role as “Jacob Stone” in a guest starring role.”

The franchise got its start as a series of made-for-TV films that aired on TNT.

When the original series was canceled in 2018, the outrage from viewers was palpable.

But just as fans were beginning to lose hope, the CW ordered a sequel series in 2023.

News that the show will now be returning to TNT is unexpected, but not unwelcome.

Sure, TNT pulled the plug on The Librarians once before, but it’s also the network that gave the franchise life over the course of three films and a four-season series.

And the fact that TNT is back in the Librarians business after all these years means execs must be eager to recapture the magic of the original projects.

In any event, fans are hopeful that the upcoming series will make for a satisfying continuation of the story that began with the Noah Wyle-starring films back in 2004.

No release date for The Librarians: The Next Chapter has been announced yet.

We’ll keep you posted as new information becomes available.
