Fans got a taste last February of Dark Panda and Equinox Games’ upcoming Survival Horror title Psycho Fear, and next month they’ll finally get the whole thing. The “ultimate escape room horror experience” in Psycho Fear will launch on September 19 on Steam, with a special introductory 10% discount available during the game’s first week on the platform.
Inspired by the Saw series (what else?), Psycho Fear has players take on the role, either solo or in co-op, of a person trapped in a series of deadly puzzles and challenges, and you must use your wits and problem-solving skills to escape the traps and survive. The game strongly emphasizes puzzle-solving, requiring players to explore their surroundings, gather items, and interact with various objects.
The aforementioned traps serve as the central focus of Psycho Fear, with each one meticulously designed to test the player’s skills and intelligence. Ranging from simple puzzles to more intricate challenges, they all demand creative and unconventional thinking in order to escape.
If that wasn’t enough, the game uses a Karma system, where every action has weight, and every decision you make can tip the balance, affecting the entire course of your journey. The mechanic is used as a narrative device that “deepens the immersion and ramps up the stakes.” Gaining or losing Karma points doesn’t merely shift numbers—it influences the game’s difficulty, modifies the narrative, and ultimately affects the game’s conclusion.
