Whenever people think of trustworthy news anchors who know how to get the job done, Gayle King is often someone who comes to mind. Gayle has been a staple in the television world for nearly two decades. While there are still tons of people who think of her as Oprah Winfrey‘s best friend, there’s a lot more to Gayle than meets the eye.
Her career as a news anchor has been quite impressive since she’s done work for CBS News and CBS Mornings. Someone recently approached her behind the scenes at work with an item she labeled “blackmail material.” Stick around for the hilarious details that might just make you crack a smile.
Gayle King’s Outdated Photograph Is “Blackmail Material”
In an Instagram Reel shared by the official CBS Mornings account, Gayle is seen getting approached by a production assistant with a special item. The PA asked Gayle to sign an old headshot from Gayle’s early days in the news reporting world. There’s nothing inherently embarrassing about the photo of Gayle. However, it’s obvious that the photo is a couple of decades old since it’s a black-and-white print.
In the picture, Gayle was rocking a short, feathered haircut, a collared blazer, and a super thick choker necklace. Her makeup in the shot looked simple and clean-cut, similar to the way she still wears her makeup today. When the PA handed her the headshot for a signature, the first words out of Gayle’s mouth were, “What are you going to do with that? That’s blackmail material!” The comment section is filled with fans of CBS Mornings who find the whole thing amusing:
- ”I love this. We must remember where we came from.”
- “Gayle! You looked good, honey.”
- “This was hilarious thank you!”
Details About Gayle King And Oprah Winfrey’s Friendship

That’s when a Baltimore-area news station called WJZ-TV hired them both. Gayle and Oprah both joined the team as young journalists with big aspirations. Their friendship took a turn in a positive direction when Oprah offered Gayle a place to crash for Gayle’s safety one a snowstorm hit Baltimore.
It’s unlikely Gayle would’ve safely made it home if she attempted to travel that evening. The fact that Oprah stepped up for her was a great foundation for their friendship. The highlights of Oprah and Gayle’s friendship include the time Gayle made her first appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1986 and the time Oprah acknowledged Gayle’s 2019 mention in Time Magazine.
