    Michael B. Jordan’s Company Developing ‘The House of Last Resort’ Film Adaptation

    Michael B. Jordan’s Company Developing ‘The House of Last Resort’ Film Adaptation


    Just a couple weeks after we learned that Christopher Golden’s novel Road of Bones is being turned into a movie by Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, Deadline reports that Golden’s The House of Last Resort has also been tapped for a feature film adaptation.

    The novel has been optioned by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society.

    Published by St. Martin’s Press last year, Christopher Golden’s The House of Last Resort follows a young American couple who relocate to a Sicilian hill town, where the mayor is selling abandoned homes to foreigners for a single Euro in an effort to revitalize the faltering community, in a move reflective of a recent real-life trend in Italy and other countries.

    Soon, they learn their new home has walled-up catacombs beneath it, whispers in its walls, and a dark history.

    Christopher Golden is writing the screenplay. Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will produce for Outlier Society, alongside Golden and Pete Donaldson of Donaldson Media.

    The House of Last Resort is described as a “high concept horror novel.”

    The New York Times raved, “This novel shines. Golden’s frenzied tale of demons and exorcisms is fast-paced, his portrayal of the insidiousness of possession is unsettling and it all comes together in a thrilling closing act.” Booklist wrote, “This new take on the exorcism tale adds spirits, desiccated corpses, and disgusting rats to the mix, making every page drip with terrifying imagery. It’s a great choice for avid horror fans.”

    Esquire’s review praised, “Golden draws on the very best of seventies and eighties pulp-horror influences, with hordes of rats, ambulatory corpses, and a grand diabolic finale. But he makes time for quiet moments of chilling intensity, including a kitchen-table conversation that ranks among the most disquieting scenes of the year. The House of Last Resort is horror that goes hard but never forgets to be fun. It’s the author’s finest novel to date.”
