See Billie Joe Armstrong Perform With the Go-Go’s at Coachella

Before Green Day’s headlining set Saturday, singer-guitarist joins Rock Hall-inducted band Friday for “Head Over Heels”

Green Day will headline Coachella on Saturday night, but Billie Joe Armstrong made a pit stop Friday at the festival to guest during the Go-Go’s afternoon set.

The singer-guitarist joined the Rock Hall-inducted band for a rendition of their 1984 hit “Head Over Heels,” a collaboration that Green Day’s Instagram hinted at earlier in the day: “Go see the go gos . A special surprise.”

Prior to the Coachella gig, the Go-Go’s played a warm-up show at Los Angeles’ the Roxy this week. The band hadn’t performed live since a tour around their Rock Hall induction back in 2021 — and at the Roxy, the group paid tribute to late Blondie drummer Clem Burke, who played with the Go-Go’s during that trek while Gina Schock recovered from thumb surgery. Burke died earlier this week at the age of 70.

“I just want to say that Clem was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known — such a gentleman at all times,” Schock said during the Roxy gig (via Variety).

“An amazing fucking drummer. What a style that guy had. There’s nobody that plays like Clem Burke, nobody. And I was so lucky when I had my thumb surgery that Clem sat in with the band for me. I mean, that’s the kind of guy he was. And I dedicate this whole thing tonight to Clem Burke and the memory of him. God bless you, Clem. You’re an angel, man.”
