Friday, May 16 – These 6 New Horror Movies Released This Week

The Final Destination franchise is back on the big screen after a 14 year break between installments, but that’s not the only new horror movie waiting for your attention this week.

Here’s all the new horror that released from May 12 – May 16, 2025!

For daily reminders about new horror releases, be sure to follow @HorrorCalendar.

The third installment in the Poohniverse, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare is now available to rent ($12.99) or buy ($19.98) digitally. It’s exclusively available on Amazon.

From Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios, the twisted take on the childhood classic is written and directed by Scott Chambers, who produced the Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey films in addition to starring in the second installment as Christopher Robin.

In the British indie slasher, “Wendy Darling strikes out in an attempt to rescue her brother Michael from the clutches of the evil Peter Pan who intends to send him to Neverland. Along the way she meets a twisted Tinkerbell, who is hooked on what she thinks is fairy dust.”

It stars Megan Placito as Wendy Darling, Martin Portlock as Peter Pan, Kit Green as Tinkerbell, and Charity Kase (“RuPaul’s Drag Race UK”) as Hook, along with Peter DeSouza-Feighoney (The Pope’s Exorcist), Kierston Wareing, and Nicholas Woodeson.

Fate is waiting for you. The sixth installment in the horror franchise, and the first in almost 15 years, Final Destination Bloodlines is now playing in theaters nationwide.

The newest chapter in New Line Cinema’s hit franchise is said to “take audiences back to the very beginning.” In the brand new sequel, “Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.”

Adam Stein & Zach Lipovsky directed the new installment.

Final Destination Bloodlines stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Rya Kihlstedt, and Anna Lore, with Brec Bassinger.

The late horror legend Tony Todd will be making his final big screen appearance in Final Destination Bloodlines, again playing recurring franchise character William Bludworth.

The screenplay is by Guy Busick & Lori Evans Taylor, and story is by Jon Watts and Guy Busick & Lori Evans Taylor. It is based on characters created by Jeffrey Reddick.

Jenna Ortega in Hurry Up Tomorrow

The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) stars as an insomniac faced with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence in Lionsgate’s Hurry Up Tomorrow, now playing in theaters.

In Hurry Up Tomorrow, “A musician plagued by insomnia is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.”

Directed by Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes at Night), the film stars Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.

While Abel Tesfaye has acted in recent projects including Uncut Gems and the HBO series “The Idol,” the upcoming movie notably marks the singer’s feature debut on the big screen.

Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson teased, “Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium. With Hurry Up Tomorrow, in partnership with Trey, his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans. We are thrilled to be bringing it to audiences worldwide.”

It’s been just about 20 years since the release of the Wes Craven-produced horror movie The Breed, and the film gets a modern day reboot with A Breed Apart now available on VOD.

Lionsgate’s A Breed Apart is described as “a hilariously harrowing tale of terror,” with the trailer mostly showcasing humans killing dogs rather than dogs killing humans.

Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey star alongside Page Kennedy (The Meg) in the new movie directed by filmmaking brothers Griff and Nathan Furst.

“When Violet accepts an invitation to a private island with some of the world’s most famous social influencers, she expects a weekend of unrivaled viral opportunity. She soon becomes part of her own horrific reality show when the guests are pitted against each other to capture the island’s legendary man-eating dogs before they become victims of the monstrous canines.”

Hayden Panettiere also stars alongside Riele Downs, Zak Steiner, and Troy Gentile.

A Desert Review - A Desert trailer and poster reveal

Director Joshua Erkman’s feature debut A Desert blends nihilistic neo-noir and horror, and after a limited rollout in recent weeks, the film is now playing in wider theatrical release.

In the noir horror thriller, “A past his prime photographer heads out on a road trip across the American Southwest to recapture the magic and success of his previous work. Instead, he finds himself thrust into the dark and chaotic underbelly of America and unwittingly drags his wife and a shady private detective down into this nightmare world with him.”

David Yow (The Toxic Avenger), Kai Lennox (Green Room), Sarah Lind (A Wounded Fawn), Zachary Ray Sherman (“Under the Banner of Heaven”), Ashley B. Smith (Off Ramp, Extremity), Rob Zabrecky (A Ghost Story), and S.A. Griffin (Vegas Vacation) star.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review out of Tribeca Film Fest, “A Desert reaches a fitting conclusion, thematically and tonally, but the steadfast refusal for tidy answers may polarize. Still, the refreshingly unpredictable journey and richly textured worldbuilding establish Erkman as a bold new voice, one that deftly blends genres with stunning precision.”

    The Severed Sun summer horror

An isolated religious community is torn asunder by the arrival of a mysterious beast in The Severed Sun, a folk horror movie that’s now available on VOD from Dark Sky Films.

Writer-Director Dean Puckett makes his feature debut with The Severed Sun.

“The Pastor of an isolated religious community delivers his fervent sermons to a devoted congregation. But dark secrets fester. In the depths of the forest, The Pastor’s daughter, Magpie, takes desperate action, ending the life of her abusive husband. Little does she know, his murder will unleash a malevolent force—a mysterious beast with shimmering white eyes.

“As weeks pass, suspicion and paranoia grip the community, with accusatory fingers pointed at Magpie. The Pastor struggles to restore Magpie’s dwindling faith, and he is unable to bring her back into ‘The Truth.’ Faith is fragile, and Magpie is hell bent on rebelling against the hypocrisy of her father.”

“When the Beast leaves a trail of gruesome carnage, a brutal witch hunt ignites. In this gripping tale of faith, fear, and the darkness within, friendships crumble, loyalties are tested, and the community hurtles toward self-destruction.”

Emma Appleton (“The Witcher”), Toby Stephens (“Lost In Space”), Jodhi May (The Silent Twins), Lewis Gribben (T2 Trainspotting), Barney Harris (“The Wheel of Time”), Oliver Maltman (Another Year), and James Swanton (The First Omen, Stopmotion) star.
