On the Sunday, July 6th episode of Love Island USA, it was revealed that Cierra Ortega had left the villa for a “personal situation.” No one watching believed that given her past history of making racist remarks resurfaced. Fans wanted her gone immediately as she offended in both 2015 and 2020. Now, her family is begging for mercy amid her departure. Keep reading for more on what they have to say.
Cierra Ortega’s Family Begs For Mercy
When it came out that Love Island USA star Cierra Ortega had used a racial slur, viewers were livid. They did not think that this was acceptable behavior and wanted her removed. More so, they believed that if Yulissa Escobar had to exit for being racist, then so did Cierra. She lost hundreds of thousands of social media followers the moment that this all resurfaced, and it seemed her best bet was to go home. At the same time, some felt that the show needed to address why she should be removed rather than have her vanish as they did with Yulissa.

Instead of doing any of that, it was explained that she had left for a “personal situation” and moved on. Unfortunately, that did not sit well with viewers as they felt Cierra was not being held accountable. Her family has since spoken out and noted Cierra has no idea what has transpired just yet. She is unaware of the hate and the things that are being said. Although they do not condone any of her behavior, they also made it clear that this is not a reason for cruelty. Cierra is facing an incredibly dark backlash, but her parents are begging everyone to be compassionate and patient.

Finally, they know the Love Island USA alum’s heart and know she has no hatred for anyone. There are a lot of people being affected by her actions, but she is still off the grid. As Yulissa Escobar stated, she was in a hotel for two days before she had access to her phone. So, right now, Cierra may very well be in the dark about her past coming back to bite her.
A Lot Of Questions
There are a lot of questions for the Love Island USA casting team. They feel that the islanders need to be vetted far better, as three of the Season 7 contestants were called out for racism. It started with Yulissa and then Austin Shepard, who both had questionable pasts. Now, Cierra Ortega is the latest casualty, and it has made the show hard to watch, knowing how these people feel:
- Surely if fans of the show can unearth their social media footprints, producers etc could as well?
-
What happened with Cierra was a colossal failure from everyone involved: Peacock didn’t vet their contestants well, her handlers made it worse, and producers sat on the decision too long hoping it would blow over which allowed it to break containment on TikTok
Because the show is filmed a few days in advance, it looked like she was removed on Sunday. However, it likely occurred on Thursday or Friday. Yet, the moment these screenshots of Cierra speaking poorly emerged, it should have been over immediately. Time will tell how long it will take for her to address the backlash and explain her true intentions.
Do you understand what Cierra’s family is saying, and should she be given grace until she can speak for herself? Or does she just need to take accountability and let the chips fall where they may? Let us know and stream Love Island USA on Peacock.
