Throwback Psychological Horror Title ‘Heartworm’ Arrives July 31 [Trailer]

Okay, so Heartworm didn’t arrive this spring as originally intended. However, the good news now is that the DreadXP and developer Vincent Adinolfi have announced that the lo-fi Survival Horror title will arrive on Steam on July 31, complete with a new trailer. And if you haven’t already done so, check out the demo on Steam today.

“If you had told me years ago, n the night I sat down in my apartment and created the “unityGame1″ project, that this same project would be releasing as a full fledged game – I would have never believed you,” said Adinolfi. “Against all odds, my hobby project to escape from the world in turn became my whole world. I have learned so much, and put everything I could into creating something that myself and my team could be proud of. It has been a long and difficult process, but I am really excited to share this trailer and release date – and soon to finally be able to share Heartworm in full with you all.”

Heartworm pays tribute to Survival Horror classics Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Dino Crisis, and centres on a woman named Sam. Grief-stricken over the death of her beloved grandfather, Sam falls down an internet rabbit hole, driven by the hope of reconnecting with him. Following a lead from a mysterious forum, she ventures to a supposedly supernatural house in the mountains, desperate to make contact with the other side.

Described as a journey through grief and loss, Heartworm features 4-6 hours of gameplay with multiple endings, as well as a focus on exploration with classic puzzles and limited combat using a camera as a weapon. The game will feature a modern control scheme with 3rd person over-the-shoulder aiming and optional classic tank controls, as well as optional pixelation and retro effects calling back to those Survival Horror classics for a more “authentic” experience.
