John Goodman Unrecognizable After Dropping 200-Lbs.
When John Goodman first began as Dan Conner on Roseanne in 1988, he was a big, burly man. Everyone could not help but love and adore him as he was sweet, funny, charismatic, and dedicated. He would remain in the role for nine seasons before the series ended, but he tipped the scales at around four hundred pounds. John went on to roles in The Flintstones, The Big Lebowski, and Coyote Ugly. However, he returned to his iconic part as Dan Conner in the Roseanne reboot. That lasted just one season before Roseanne Barr was let go, and the series was rebranded The Conners.
By the time the revival happened, John was down about one hundred pounds, and he looked so different. At times, it was hard to watch him because he barely resembled the man fans fell in love with. He is now back to walking the red carpet as the voice of Papa Smurf in Smurfs, but he is unrecognizable. When he stepped out, fans could not believe it was him. John was so much tinier than he had ever been, and the seventy-three-year-old was glowing. He donned a navy blue suit, white button-down, and a tie, which were all loose on him.
John Goodman began focusing on his health in 2007. Since then, he has dropped around two hundred pounds, but made one thing very clear. He never wants to be someone who people look up to with this journey, as he joked that the weight could come back. His approach to eating has also changed, as he focuses on smaller portions and not shoveling in large meals. It seems to be working because he has continued to trim down over the nearly two decades and looks incredible.
Fans Are Mixed
After seeing John Goodman at the Smurfs premiere, longtime fans were torn about his new physique. Of course, they wanted him to be happy and healthy. However, they did struggle as he did not look like his former self, and they loved him as he was:
- I know I should be happy for him, but I loved him before. He doesn’t look right now
- Are you sure that isn’t Russell Crowe?
One stated that John needed to get a face and neck lift to complete his transformation. Yet, he is thriving, and that is all that matters right now. Hopefully, he feels good about what he has accomplished because it has been tremendous.
