Goodreads has released its list of the most read books of the 2025 reading challenge. These include not just 2025 releases, but any books popular this year. There’s an overall top 12 list, followed by the most read books by genre: Fiction, Historical Fiction, Mystery & Thriller, Fantasy, Romantasy, Science Fiction, Horror, Romance, Young Adult, Memoirs, History & Biography, and General Nonfiction.

Listed below are the overall top 12. Before you scroll, see how many you can guess! Here are some hints: three books from the same series are in the top five. Also, there are two books from the same thriller author on the overall list.

As usual, the most read books on Goodreads are far from diverse. There isn’t a single book by an author of color in the top 12. There are some in other genres, though, including Yellowface by R.F. Kuang, Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar, James by Percival Everett, and One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad.
