Fire Country’s Latest Move with Bode Is a Grave Misstep

Fire Country’s Latest Move with Bode Is a Grave Misstep

Bode thrives when he has a mission.

Whether it’s saving a friend’s life by falsely admitting to possession, rooting out a firebug, or finding an arsonist directly responsible for his father’s death, the man needs something to do.

Honestly, I’m not even blaming him for it because we all need something to focus on, or we risk falling into destructive patterns or dark thoughts.

But history shows Bode’s missions usually backfire — and not just on him. And that’s fine if it didn’t affect anyone else, but it does hurt the people closest to him.

The last few episodes of Fire Country Season 4 have been really quiet on the Bode front. Maybe he’s changed; maybe he’s biding his time before diving into the next thing that catches his fancy.

However, he seems to have set his eyes on a fresh mission — or at least the writers are setting him up on one.

Bode meets a young man, Tyler, in Fire Country Season 4 Episode 7 “Best Mom in the World.”

    (Eike Schroter/CBS)

Tyler is a troubled teen who gets into an emergency while squatting and running away from home. He is angry, mouthy, and rebellious. Who does that remind you of?

He is a young man lost and could use a mentor. Given how similar Tyler and Bode are in behavior and temperament, it’s like looking in the mirror.

Both are angry after losing their fathers and the massive effect the Zabel Ridge fire had on their lives.

So, naturally, Bode jumps in to help “where he can.” This is not a good idea and may end badly for both parties.

Bode’s instincts are notoriously reckless — impulsive, defiant, and allergic to authority. These are the last traits he should pass down to a teenager. The younger generation deserves better.

Honestly speaking, Bode needs a mentor badly. The show has tried to introduce that storyline with Camden, but he was not effective.

Like Bode is poised to do with Tyler, Camden encouraged all the worst instincts in Bode. Luckily, Vince was still alive and was quick to counter some of the advice given.

Unlucky for Tyler, there is no one in his corner to show him a different path. His stepfather is unsure what to do, and his mother, Chloe, might harbor romantic feelings for Bode, which could cloud his judgment.

This risks pushing Tyler further down the wrong path.

What the kid needs is a firm, loving hand to guide him, or else he will find himself in the new Three Rock, now a conservation camp for young convicts.

Speaking of the conservation camp, can someone please keep Bode out of that place? Those young men are already in so much trouble; they don’t need a grown man setting a bad example.

It’s worth remembering that he is still suffering, and losing a father would do that to anyone. The writers should focus on fixing him before they have Bode fixing someone else’s problems.

But that’s just my opinion. There is a fair chance that Bode will improve this season, and having gone through this will make him a good mentor.

Perhaps all the insane stuff he’s done over the years has been leading him to his purpose in life.

But he needs to be seen making active efforts to become a better person before he’s allowed near impressionable youngsters.

I’m not banking on it, but Fire Country can surprise me in a good way. Let’s see how this plays out.

I’m very interested in hearing your opinions, Fire Country fanatics, so don’t hesitate to leave a comment below.
