Barack Obama Names ‘Sinners’ One of His Favorite Movies of 2025

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners was one of this year’s biggest success stories in the horror genre and in Hollywood at large, and that’s being reflected here in the final days of the year.

Fresh off the vampire epic being nominated for multiple Golden Globes including Best Picture, and making the Academy Awards shortlist in seven categories, Sinners has just been selected by Barack Obama as being one of the very best movies released this year.

The former President Obama reflects on his favorite movies, books, and music at the end of every single year, and it’s pretty incredible to finally see a horror movie make the cut.

Obama tweets, “As 2025 comes to a close, I’m continuing a tradition that I started during my time in the White House: sharing my annual lists of favorite books, movies, and music. I hope you find something new to enjoy—and please send any recommendations for me to check out!”

Other movies on Barack Obama’s list of his favorite movies of 2025 include One Battle After Another, It Was Just an Accident, Hamnet, Sentimental Value, No Other Choice, The Secret Agent, Train Dreams, Jay Kelly, Good Fortune, and Orwell: 2+2=5.

If you somehow haven’t seen it yet or you just want to revisit it before the year comes to an end, Sinners is now available on all major Digital outlets and it’s streaming on HBO Max. Max is streaming the Black American Sign Language (BASL) version alongside the original version.

Written and directed by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed), the critically acclaimed vampire horror film stars Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as twin brothers Smoke and Stack.

Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, Smoke and Stack return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

As 2025 comes to a close, I’m continuing a tradition that I started during my time in the White House: sharing my annual lists of favorite books, movies, and music. I hope you find something new to enjoy—and please send any recommendations for me to check out! pic.twitter.com/T9LFt5fnKG
