Sweet Magnolias Takes Manhattan in Season 5! How Else Will Their Lives Change?

Who’s ready for more margarita nights?

Netflix announced on Wednesday that Sweet Magnolias Season 5 would premiere on Thursday, June 11.

Helen (Heather Headley) and Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) appear to be visiting Maddie (Joanna Garcia Swisher) as our favorite trio takes on Manhattan.

We’re not surprised, since Maddie had contemplated a new publishing job in New York at the end of Sweet Magnolias Season 4, and these women have a bond that could withstand long distances.

We’re eager to see the Magnolias’ new adventures in the Big Apple and learn what else changes in their lives and Serenity.

Sweet Magnolias Season 5 Addresses Massive Moves and Big Dreams

The Sweet Magnolias Season 4 ended with Maddie’s dilemma about taking a publishing job in New York.

Maddie had always taken care of other people, so her family and friends jumped in to support her.

Sweet Magnolias Season 5 should address how Maddie’s family adjusts to the move, especially since Cal still co-owns Sullivans.

I’m curious whether they’ll keep the house in Serenity and travel back and forth between the two locations. I’m anxious to see what kind of clients Maddie has and how long the other Magnolias visit.

Will they go shopping in Manhattan, like for Helen’s wedding dress? The boutiques are gorgeous there.

While Maddie has big dreams, so does Dana Sue. She and Ronnie were starting their own E-bike business, and she was opening up a cooking school.

Hopefully, Season 5 focuses on how both of these dreams thrive as their marriage continues to grow.

Helen and Erik Will Likely Plan an Extravagant Wedding in Sweet Magnolias Season 5

Helen and Erik’s wedding will likely be the event of Season 5.

Heather Headley teased last year that their wedding would be extravagant and that Helen should wear a long train, which Maddie and Dana Sue would carry.

We’ve seen Dana Sue and Ronnie renew their vows and Cal and Maddie get married.

Helen has been single in Serenity forever, so she and Erik have earned their happiness after a year apart.

While Erik has become more outspoken, I suspect he’ll let Helen and her friends handle the wedding.

Perhaps, Sullivans will cater some of the events, and Issac or Bailey will prepare the food. It can be a community event.

Everyone loves them and will want to help, like they chipped in to host Dana Sue and Ronnie’s vow renewal, only this will be on a much larger scale.

Ty and Annie Face Relationship Crossroads in Sweet Magnolias Season 5

Sweet Magnolias Season 4 allowed Ty and Annie to explore their relationship.

While I loved how their romantic relationship evolved and they stood by each other, I also appreciated that the series seemed more invested in their individual interests.

It was one of the most realistic representations of young love as Ty went on tour and Annie embraced her love of photography.

While Ty probably asked Annie to join him on tour because he missed her, she didn’t want to put her dream college on hold now that she finally recognized her goals.

I’m excited for Sweet Magnolias to return because I want to explore the multifaceted personalities of Annie and Ty. 

Hopefully, they find a compromise that allows them to stay together long-distance. I’m also excited to see the series address why photography and music resonate with them.

One of the Sweet Magnolias titles is called “Come Home,” which could relate to Ty returning from tour and them meeting back in Serenity to work things out. That’s my theory.
