Back in 2024 we wrote an article on Bloody Disgusting about the only five horror franchises to collectively hit $1 billion at the box office, but a sixth has joined the club this week.
After making nearly $100 million worldwide in its first weekend, Scream 7 has now officially propelled the Scream franchise past the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office!
Over the course of the past 30 years, the Scream movies have scared up $1,009,618,099 in theaters, with Wes Craven’s original still remaining the highest grossing single installment with $173 million worldwide. Scream VI came close to breaking the record with $166.5 million back in 2023, and Scream 7 is very likely to smash through that record in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, Scream 7 just minted Scream as a billion dollar franchise!
Which horror franchises made $1 billion at the box office?
Scream has joined a Horror Billionaire’s Club that also includes…
- The Conjuring Universe
- Alien
- Resident Evil
- IT
- Saw
The highest grossing horror franchise of all time?
That’d be the James Wan-created The Conjuring Universe, which currently includes a total of nine movies. The universe has raked in a massive $2,903,037,09 to date, making it the only horror franchise in cinema history to cross 2 BILLION DOLLARS in theaters!
Other horror franchises that are edging closer and closer to that epic $1 billion milestone include Final Destination, Predator, A Quiet Place, Paranormal Activity, and Halloween.
See the full list of the 20 highest grossing horror franchises of all time on Wikipedia.
Congratulations to Scream for officially joining the Horror Billionaire’s Club!
