Here’s how it all went down: Ella Langley shared the story on the This Past Weekend With Theo Von podcast. Country Music Tunes posted a clip on Instagram.
And then Dunn dropped into the comments section to talk about a time when he forgot the words to a Morgan Wallen song, and got some blowback for it from Wallen’s fans.
Why Did Fans Think Ronnie Dunn Disrespected Morgan Wallen?
Dunn brought up an incident from 2025 when he used a “cheat sheet” for the lyrics to Wallen’s “Whiskey Glasses” while singing the song as a special guest on Wallen’s tour stop in Miami.
He dubbed the incident “Paper Gate.”

“I wrote [the lyrics] on a small card then at the end threw it out to the audience as a souvenir,” Dunn recounts in his comment.
“Next thing ya know someone is making it look like an act of disrespect…not my intent at all,” he continued.

Dunn also made it clear at the time that he didn’t intend the moment to be a slight against Wallen. He said he was simply unfamiliar with the song, and joked that he’s still getting the hang of Brooks & Dunn’s own hit “Neon Moon.”
There are no hard feelings on Wallen’s end, either. In fact, he invited Brooks & Dunn out once again to sing during the 2026 run of I’m the Problem Tour dates.
What Did Ella Langley Say About Forgetting Morgan Wallen’s Lyrics?
During her stint opening for Wallen, Langley has been joining him onstage to sing “What I Want,” his hit duet with Tate McRae.
Langley admitted she’s struggled over the lyrics in that song on multiple occasions, and that Wallen gave her some grief over the mistake. But the last night they performed the song together, she got some sweet revenge.

“What was awesome is the last time that we did it, he came out and messed up the words,” she recounted to Theo Von during the podcast.
“When he did that I just started to laugh so hard ’cause he was giving me so much s–t about messing up the words. He was like, ‘You can’t come out here and mess this up again.’ I was like, ‘I might. I really am scared that I might,'” Langley continued. “And so the last night he did, and he just immediately could never say another thing to me about messing up the words.”
