Lainey Wilson Reveals Wedding Dress Code for Guests

Lainey Wilson Reveals Wedding Dress Code for Guests

Lainey Wilson‘s wedding may have featured a custom Oscar de la Renta gown, a mallard-green tuxedo, and a guest list packed with country music stars — but when it came to what everyone else wore, the bride couldn’t have cared less.

As more details emerge from Wilson’s wedding to Devlin “Duck” Hodges, one of the most surprising may be just how relaxed the couple was about their guests’ attire.

Lainey Had a Very Different Wedding Dress Code

Speaking with People on the ACM Awards red carpet, Wilson revealed that while guests were stressing about what to wear, she and Hodges were taking a much more laid-back approach.

“Honestly, we were the ones that were a little less stressed,” Wilson said. “Everybody else was worried about what they were going to wear to the wedding.”

In fact, the couple’s dress code was apparently simple: “We were like, ‘You can wear your birthday suit. We don’t give a damn.'”

Hodges agreed, adding, “We were the least stressed, probably.”

Thankfully, judging by the wedding photos Wilson later shared with Vogue, nobody appears to have taken the couple up on that offer.

The Bride + Groom Had Their Own Style Plans

While guests were given plenty of freedom, Wilson and Hodges clearly had a vision for their own wedding-day looks.

Wilson stunned in a custom Oscar de la Renta gown, a rare departure from the bell-bottoms and hats that have become synonymous with her public image.

Hodges, meanwhile, wore a custom tuxedo by D. Lacquaniti in mallard green — a fitting choice given his nickname, “Duck.” He completed the look with a custom bolo tie, matching cufflinks, a hat pin designed with Mud Lowery, a Charlie 1 Horse cowboy hat, and custom western boots from Wilson’s Golden West Boots brand.

They Wanted Guests to Feel Comfortable

The relaxed dress-code philosophy appears to fit the overall vibe Wilson and Hodges were aiming for.

The couple chose The Ruskin Cave in Dickson, Tenn., as their venue, telling Vogue they were drawn to the property’s simplicity.

“We wanted it to be special and beautiful, but really welcoming and comfortable for our guests,” Wilson explained. “We tried not to take ourselves too seriously.”

The celebration also incorporated plenty of Wilson’s Louisiana roots, including a 12-piece jazz band and a Cajun meal prepared by the chefs from her Nashville bar, Bell Bottoms Up.

Wedding Guest List for the Ages

The wedding brought together a star-studded guest list that included Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley, ERNEST, HARDY, Wynonna Judd, and more.

But while the food, music, and fashion helped make the day memorable, Wilson says the most important part was much simpler.

“It was everything that we could have imagined, to be honest. It was perfect. It was beautiful,” she said. “He’s my person.”

And apparently, whether guests showed up in formalwear, jeans, or something in between, that was all that really mattered.
