Keith Urban Admits He Doesn’t Know What’s Next After ‘Flow State’

Keith Urban Admits He Doesn’t Know What’s Next After ‘Flow State’

Keith Urban is releasing a full-length album of 10 yacht rock cover songs, along with one new original song, on Friday June 12th, called Flow State.

Most of the time, when I ask artists what’s next for them after their newest project, they have a clear direction for the next step of their career. But not Urban — at least, not right now.

Keith Urban’s Current Headspace: ‘I Don’t Really Have a Plan With What I’m Doing Next’

Urban sat down with me on Taste of Country Nights, where we talked about what comes after he releases Flow State and if he will continue to cover songs or get back to making albums full of original recordings.

“I have no idea,” Urban admits.

“I didn’t expect this, I don’t know… I really don’t have a plan with what I’m doing next,” he continues. “I think being spontaneous and having fun in the studio is how this record got born and I’m up for doing more of that, whatever that looks like and sounds like.”

This is likely the first time in Urban’s long and storied country music career that he doesn’t have a firm plan in place for his music releases.

With a star as big as his, usually touring and music releases are planned a year or so in advance because it takes a lot of moving parts coming together to plan a new album with a tour to go along with it. But Urban seems to be at that point in his career where he is willing to just go with the flow.

The 20 Best Keith Urban Songs

Keith Urban is special because he’s so versatile. A talented songwriter and vocalist and one of country music’s very best modern guitar players, he’s known for pushing boundaries, trying new things and keeping an open mind with the songs he chooses to record.

That creative approach is on full display in this list of Urban’s best songs. His biggest hits range from classic singalong country to experimental ballads and pop-friendly dance tunes. Keep reading for Taste of Country’s rundown of the best Keith Urban songs of all time.
