Former Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay fancies herself a performer, and that includes her single “Good As Gold.” She rereleased it with an emo vibe and on a gold record. Yet, it was not written just for her, but rather with a superstar in mind. Keep reading to find out who was wanted on the single and how much Scheana has made since it was released.
Scheana Shay Was Not The 1st Choice
Vanderpump Rules fans watched Scheana Shay compare herself to Britney Spears and attempt to win people over in the recording studio. She performed on the SUR bar at her engagement party and made Stassi Schroeder crazy, singing her song on repeat in the PRIDE parade. The hope was that she would pick another career as the seasons went on. However, she was dedicated to singing, and viewers just had to accept this. One of her most memorable singles was “Good As Gold.” She rereleased it with an emo twist and on a gold record.

It has become synonymous with Scheana, but now she is spilling some tea. The forty-one-year-old revealed that the song was initially written for Selena Gomez. Yet, she seemingly passed on the now-iconic single. Scheana shared this with her former co-star, Tom Schwartz, on his Detox Retox pod:
“So here’s what I was told. The two people who were the writers/producers on it had originally made the song for Selena Gomez. That’s what I was told.”
Since Selena did not want the song, Scheana Shay was asked if she would do it, and she did. However, the performer shared that she has not seen one dime from the single, which is crazy after how much press it received:
“I would have thought that I owned half of the master. [The writers] thought I owned half of the master. But, apparently, the manager that I had at the time … I don’t know. No one has the paperwork.”
No Surprise
Vanderpump Rules fans were not surprised that Scheana Shay did not get any money from the song. They did not think that she was the brightest cherry on the tree or the best businesswoman. Moreover, they felt that Selena Gomez dodged a bullet by not taking on this song:
- Duh. I doubt the song has generated a dollar.
- Selena dodged a bullet on this trash song.
- Wow, Scheana’s business sense is as about a good as her “singing” skills!!! She needs to release a follow up single “Good as Broke”!
- ‘My talent has not earned me any money’ Girl, don’t spread that around. She’s got a big mouth.
She has done commercials with a play on the song, so hopefully that has helped her some. Did you think that Scheana Shay raked in the dough from ‘Good As Gold’ or did you think it was worthless? Finally, would you have liked it more if Selena sang it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
