Fans have been tuning in to watch David Muir on ABC World News Tonight for years. However, viewers have noted that other anchors have been filling in for him over the past few weeks. Recently, Muir has opened up about what is going on.
David Muir Was Absent From ABC World News Tonight In Late July & Early August, Sparking Fan Concerns
Muir joined ABC News in 2003. Starting in 2007, he joined ABC World News Tonight.
Initially serving as a weekend anchor and primary substitute anchor, Muir eventually succeeded Diane Sawyer as anchor in 2014. The year prior, he also joined 20/20.
Recently, fans have grown concerned about Muir after he had missed a few broadcasts earlier this month, as well as late July. In his place, correspondents like Whit Johnson, Linsey Davis, Gio Benitez, and Mary Bruce have been filling in.
Since then, however, Muir has taken to social media to share what’s been going on. While he didn’t divulge much, he shared a carousel post where he appeared to be spending time with family, including his mother and sister.

In a caption, Muir wrote, “Heart full and still smiling.” This was followed by emojis representing the flags of Italy and Spain, hinting that was where the family went on vacation. According to the post, they appeared to be enjoying the sights, even taking time to appreciate, and collect, some flowers.
With the shares, fans, and even some of Muir’s colleagues, took to the comments to share their reactions. David’s 20/20 co-host Deborah Roberts, in particular, shared, “You went to my happy place!!”
Some fans were simply relieved to see that Muir was just enjoying time off from the show. A few felt that his vacation was well-deserved. Some comments included:
