Taylor Sheridan Says ‘6666’ Yellowstone Spinoff Will Never Happen

Taylor Sheridan has finally put an end to one of the most talked-about Yellowstone spinoff ideas.

For years, 6666 was expected to become another series in the expanding Yellowstone universe, centered on the legendary Texas ranch and characters such as Jimmy and Walker.

But despite years of talk about development and even an official synopsis, Sheridan now says the series is never going to happen.

    What Happened to ‘6666’?

Sheridan recently appeared on Dale Brisby’s Rodeo Time podcast, where he was asked for an update on the planned 6666 spinoff.

His answer was definitive. “There’s never going to be one,” Sheridan said.

The idea for 6666 first emerged in February 2021, as the Yellowstone universe continued expanding beyond the Dutton family. An official report in 2022 indicated that the series would air on Paramount Network and stream on Paramount+, with Jefferson White’s Jimmy and Ryan Bingham’s Walker expected to be central characters.

There was even an official synopsis for the series, describing the Four Sixes as a Texas ranch where generations of cowboys were shaped and “the rule of law and the laws of nature merge.”

But Sheridan ultimately decided he didn’t want to fictionalize the real-life ranch.

Why Taylor Sheridan Changed His Mind

Sheridan explained that he had already pieced together Jimmy’s scenes at the Four Sixes from Yellowstone and realized they told a complete story on their own.

“I’ve actually got on my computer all the scenes of Jimmy at the Four Sixes pulled out and strung together, and it makes its own perfect little movie,” he explained.

For Sheridan, Jimmy’s time at the ranch already had the arc he wanted. The character arrived as a misfit and left as a respected cowboy.

But the real Four Sixes was an even bigger consideration. Sheridan said creating a scripted series around the ranch would mean inventing storylines and drama involving people who actually live and work there.

If I was going to try and make some kind of show about the Four Sixes, now I’m making up lives, now I have to invent a drama. So now, I’m trivializing and fictionalizing something where real people work, and they raise their families there, and I could never do that to them.

Sheridan said he feels a responsibility to protect the Four Sixes and the people who have dedicated their lives to the ranch.

“I’m very protective of the Sixes,” he said. “And it’s a big responsibility to be the person who has to protect that ranch, so I have to be very, very careful with it.”

So while 6666 was once positioned as another major addition to the Yellowstone universe, Sheridan has now made his decision. The Four Sixes will remain a real working ranch rather than becoming the setting for another scripted series.
