The Traitors is back! Traitors: New Blood is now airing on NBC and Peacock, and the cast for the new celebrity Traitors season was just announced. As a lover of all things creepy, I truly believe that The Traitors is the ultimate way to usher in the creepy fall season. It’s intensely atmospheric. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s set at a large, isolated (and maybe haunted?), Scottish castle. And it features a cast of characters who can’t be trusted. Sounds like an ideal horror read, doesn’t it? Have I got some recommendations for you then!
If you’re a fan of The Traitors, just read this post and imagine that you’re in that Scottish castle. As I’m writing this, I’m doing an excellent Alan Cumming impression while wearing a lot of fashion-forward tartan. Are you there with me? Okay? Let’s do this.

Horror Books Like The Traitors
Mazywood by Tananarive Due
While The Traitors takes place at an isolated Scottish castle, Tananarive Due’s recently released Gothic horror novel features an isolated mountain lodge. When filmmaker Johnny Washington takes a winter retreat to Mazywood lodge with his wife and two daughters, he unknowingly awakens a sinister supernatural entity that has been connected to his family ever since his grandmother Mazy made a childhood wish.
Nothing but Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw
If you love the hidden secrets, deceptions, and back-stabbing on The Traitors, then you’ll love Cassandra Khaw’s novella about a group of friends who gather together at a haunted mansion in Japan for a wedding. Their plans for celebration are quickly dashed when it becomes clear a vengeful ghost is stalking them through the house. As they try to survive the night, truths are revealed, toxic relationships come to a head, and the dysfunctional friend group quickly unravels.
Newbourne Park by Jennifer Thorne
While not set in a castle, Newbourne Park is set in an opulent mansion in England. If you like the dark humor and camp of The Traitors, this book is going to be your vibe. Martha Shaw is grieving the death of her mother and looking for an escape. When her brother invites her to join him and his friends as they break into a giant 200-acre mansion for a weekend of fun, Martha says yes. After all, what could go wrong?
Unfortunately, Martha is nowhere near ready for what happens when the rightful master of the mansion shows up. What started as a weekend of fun turns into a fight for survival.
