Miranda Lambert promised a new sound on her upcoming Palomino project, and boy is she making good on that. “Actin’ Up” — a new song she just released from the album — leans in a bluesy direction.
The guitar slides and driving baselines showcase a side of Lambert we’re not incredibly familiar with. The lyrics however, are all her.
“Billy Bobs Texas / Picking out new exes” is just one example of the sass and Lone Star State roots we’ve come to know and love from the Lindale, Texas, native.
The song truly captures Lambert’s free-spirited personality. She’s never been one to take orders from anyone, and this do-as-I-please song is a prime example of that. She wrote the track alongside Luke Dick and Jon Randall.
“Actin’ Up” is in the lead-off position for Lambert’s Palomino album, due out April 29. She first shared the song during her performance at Country 2 Country Music Festival in London on March 10.
In addition to “Actin’ Up” and her previously-released song ”If I Was a Cowboy,” Palomino will features studio versions of a few tracks from Lambert’s Grammy-nominated album, The Marfa Tapes. Those include “Geraldine,” “In His Arms” and “Waxahachie,” which were originally written and recorded in the wide open spaces of Marfa, Texas, with Jon Randall and Jack Ingram.
Following other artists like Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan, the ACM Entertainer of the Year has announced her first Las Vegas residency in 2022. Velvet Rodeo — named after a line in “Actin’ Up” — will take over the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood starting Sep. 23, with dates speckled throughout September, October, November and December. The residency will run into 2023, with shows scheduled in March and April.
