New ‘Hunt: Showdown’ Update “The Ward of the Reptilian” Available Now [Trailer]

Welcome Villain Films has teamed up with XR content developer and publisher Top Right Corner to release a new VR survival horror game based on Malum, releasing in theaters this Friday, March 31.

The game, Flock of the Low God, is “a terrifying survival horror experience that immerses players into the thrilling world of Malum. Players will be challenged to survive their first shift at the Lanford Police Department by evading supernatural forces, unlocking new environments, scavenging weapons and tools, and defeating wave after wave of possessed cultists through intense close-quarters combat. The game will feature both single-player and multiplayer modes.”

This game was designed using sets and locations from the film, allowing players to follow in the footsteps of Officer Jessica Loren, played by Jessica Sula in Malum. Players will interact with various props, scenes, and locations recreated in screen-accurate virtual reality, including the main office, morgue, and shooting range.

Check out the new trailer below to get a feel for the movie’s scenes and jump scares in VR form.

Directed by Anthony DiBlasi (Last Shift, Dread, Extremity) and co-written by DiBlasi and Scott Poiley (Last Shift, Missionary, Exhume), the same creative team behind 2014’s Last Shift, Malum reimagines the original critically-acclaimed horror hit.

In the film, “On a search to uncover the mysterious circumstances surrounding her father’s death, a newly appointed police officer, Jessica Loren, is assigned to the last shift in a decommissioned police station where a notoriously vicious cult saw their demise years prior. The lone officer at the station, she soon finds herself barraged by terrifying paranormal events and, in the process, is taken on a journey during which she learns the shocking truth behind her family’s entanglement with a demented cult leader. Malum takes the premise of the 2014 festival hit and flips it on its head, thrusting viewers into an unrelenting, adrenaline-fueled, bloody cult nightmare.”

“Throughout the production of the film, we captured set and location data that we then used to rebuild the environments in a game engine. It’s surreal to put on a VR headset and battle vicious cult members in locations that accurately resemble the same rooms we shot in,” says film and game producer Dan Clifton in a press release. “We’ve recreated many elements of the film in specific detail including the weapons you use to survive.”

Flock of the Low God VR will be available via Early Access on Steam in early April, and Steam users can add the game to their wishlists here. Production on the game will continue to develop over the summer before hitting a full commercial release this Halloween. The game was designed specifically for the HTC platforms including the upcoming Vive XR Elite, but will work on any PC-compatible headset.
