It’s no secret that Keith Urban is one of the biggest megastars in country music history —racking up 4 Grammys, 15 ACM awards and 13 CMAs.
We all know and love his many Billboard hits that all started with his historical album, Golden Road. But little do many know that Urban was an accomplished studio and road musician before he rose to fame as a solo artist.
After moving to the U.S. from Australia in 1992, Keith brought his guitar riffs to many popular albums in the States. Even though he is New Zealand born, he admittedly was influenced by American bands, which led to him bringing his unique style to country music.
He has played on many popular country albums before his rise to fame as a solo artist, including on albums for Garth Brooks, Charlie Daniels, The Chicks (Formerly the Dixie Chicks) and more.
You have to be good to keep up with powerhouse multi-instrumentalist, Charlie Daniels. Daniels was widely known for his fiddle playing, but many don’t know Daniels is an epic guitar player as well. This means his guitar player would have to be a heavy hitter, which no doubt give Urban a chance to really rock out.
Another huge album that the “Blue Ain’t Your Color” singer helped lend his guitar skills to was FLY by the Chicks (formerly the Dixie Chicks). This popular album by the famous trio defined female ’90s country and inspired many current female artists in the genre today.
Of course, with a rolodex of hit solo albums, Keith has played on his own albums and put on some of the most epic live performances in country music history, collaborating with many other megastars whether it be with his voice or his epic guitar skills.
Here’s a list of some of his most notable studio credits in which he played his signature guitar before he was famous.
