Way back in February 2022, it was reported that Supermassive Games had registered several new trademarks for what appeared to be new entries as part of the second season of The Dark Pictures Anthology. Now the developer is teasing what appears to be the potential reveal of the new season at this year’s Gamescom.
Supermassive released a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter) of an image of space above a planet, with the text “we hear gamescom will be out of this world”. Now for non-fans of the series, that would get them thinking of Supermassive teasing a brand-new IP. However, given that Supermassive had shown Directive 8020 as a teaser at the conclusion of The Devil in Me, there’s a strong possibility that this is what the post is referring to.
Of course, we could all be wrong on this, and Supermassive could be working on a new horror project, such as the one they announced in September 2022. We won’t know until Gamescom hits on August 21.
Another question to consider for the second season is the recent passing of Tony Pankhurst, who lent his likeness to the first season as The Curator. Will Supermassive be giving us a new incarnation of the character, or will they phase it out entirely?
The season one finale of The Dark Pictures Anthology was The Devil in Me, which is out now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
