Kate Middleton isn’t afraid to shift into high gear.
In fact, the Princess of Wales recently broke traditional royal norms to drive herself to a reception she hosted at Windsor Castle for England Women’s rugby team, in honor of their Sept. 2025 World Cup win.
Kate—who is Patron of the team—arrived to the royal venue behind the wheel of a black car, as seen in footage shared to X, exiting on the vehicle’s driver’s side. No one else was in the car with her, and she was soon greeted by a staffer from whom she accepted a proffered umbrella to shield from the rain.
The move was an unusual one, as British royal family members are usually chauffeured when traveling to events. Windsor Castle, however, is not far from Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, where Kate lives with Prince William and their kids Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. The family moved there in Oct. 2025 from Adelaide Cottage.
For the sporting event, Kate donned a tailored red pantsuit which she styled with a simple white blouse and matching red heels. Her brown locks were left in waves around her face.
