The only pet peeve of mine as a teen was the dry, chlorine build-up I experienced after every pool day. So obviously, the only solution…

Has the DEI Backlash Come for Publishing? Dan Sinykin and Richard Jean So have some fascinating data in The Atlantic. In looking at the racial breakdown of more than 1700 novels published by major publishers in the last five years (2019 – 2023), Sinykin and So found that the percentage by nonwhite writers doubled, from a meager 8% in 2019 to a better, though still well short of U.S. demographics, 16% in 2023. This is tremendous progress and, anecdotally, feels about right. The framing of the piece is in the context of Lisa Lucas’ firing from Pantheon, which is both…

Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket is a movie that forever sticks in your head. It’s not just one of the best movies about the Vietnam War, but one of the greatest war movies of all time, and it will be remembered forever for its remarkable characters and brutal depiction of a soldier’s time in service. Even the poster is iconic, a simple design with a military helmet featured on a white background – and given this legacy, it’s wholly understandable that actor Matthew Modine is upset about the artwork being changed by Amazon on the movie’s digital rental/purchase page.If you…

The commandments must be “in a large, easily readable font” and the poster no smaller than no smaller than 11 by 14 inches. The law’s text portrays the commandments as having a “historical role” and states that including the religious text “in the education of…
The two concertgoers who attended Madonna‘s Brooklyn show for her Celebration Tour and subsequently sued over a delayed start time have voluntarily dismissed their lawsuit, according to court documents filed on Wednesday. According to the filing reviewed by Rolling Stone, plaintiffs Michael Fellows and Jason Alvarez gave notice of their dismissal with prejudice, meaning that their claims cannot be re-filed. Jeff Warshafsky, representing both Madonna and Live Nation in the case, filed a letter on Wednesday further stating that the dismissal “was not the result of any settlement” between the parties. Warshafsky further wrote that Madonna and the concert promoter…
