Before there were horror movies, there were legends. Passed down through oral tradition, our earliest ancestors created colorful fables of vengeful gods, malevolent witches, and ravenous beasts lurking in the darkest corners of the night. Often told to entertain, these spooky tales also included hidden warnings about the dangers of straying from the path, disobeying one’s parents, or breaking social norms. As the years have passed between then and now, so have the stories. Horrific tales of poisoned apples have become whispered warnings to check Halloween candy for razor blades. Trolls lurking in the woods have transformed into a hook-handed…

A top anti-vaxxer has taken over Robert Kennedy Jr.’s campaign communications shop — underscoring the fringe, anti-science thrust of the independent candidate’s presidential bid. Del Bigtree leads the conspiratorial, anti-vaccine Informed Consent Action Network, which alleges (against substantial scientific evidence) that childhood vaccines cause autism, and that myriad vaccines — from chicken pox to Covid jabs — “should never have been licensed.” Bigtree is also the producer of a controversial, 2016 vaccine-alarmist “documentary” Vaxxed. Bigtree and Kennedy have long swum in the same anti-science waters; ICAN is the second-best funded anti-vaccine nonprofit, trailing only Children’s Health Defense, which Kennedy led…

The new country music album calendar for 2024 is filling up. Hardy and Sheryl Crow are two well-known stars who have put a date on new projects. Newcomers including Conner Smith and Hannah Ellis will beat them to it.The first three months of any year typically bring fewer new country albums to stores and digital streaming platforms. Often these projects are very satisfying, however, so we have high hopes for Gabby Barrett, Brittney Spencer and Blackberry Smoke.Could George Strait drop a new album in 2024? What about Kenny Chesney, Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson or Eric Church?Related: Country Music Tours Scheduled for 2024: Full…

Photography via Adobe Stock One writer explores the many ways technology can deepen how we experience scents. By Meera Estrada Date January 2, 2024 Perfume has always existed at the intersection of science and art. A balance of extracted oils, aroma compounds, fixatives and solvents, fragrance formulation involves subtle tweaks and changes until the perfect ratio of notes is achieved. But if perfume creation is already a science, what does the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) mean for the future of the industry? After all, the science of scent is about more than just making things smell nice. Take the…

As the old saying goes: Like mother, like daughter. Alessandra Ambrosio proved that statement to be true after she rang in the New Year with her 15-year-old daughter Anja. If anything, the mother-daughter duo displayed their model behavior as they posed in matching sparkly outfits. The former Victoria’s Secret model donned a long-sleeve naked minidress that featured fringe beading with see-through material and an ab-baring cutout. Alessandra’s design perfectly complemented her teen’s glitzy strapless minidress in a glimmering champagne color. The two also twinned in the beauty department, as they both opted for loose beach waves and the same makeup style: a shimmery shadow, rose-colored blush and pink lipstick. Although…

Bandai Namco gave Little Nightmares fans the mobile version of the hit platformer last month, and it appears for 2024 that they aren’t quite done with revisiting the original game. This (so far) unannounced version of Little Nightmares was originally spotted by Gematsu on South Africa’s Film and Publication Board last January. This new rating summary on the ESRB website doesn’t really detail anything more about Little Nightmares: Enhanced Edition, so we’re only left to speculate on what it entails. One…

There are cool threads that tie together the careers of Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista. Individually they are known for their on-screen charisma and massive muscles, but they were also both part of the ensemble in Dune: Part 1, co-starred in the second season of the Apple TV+ series See, and they were each considered for the role of Drax The Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy (Bautista landed the career-changing role while Momoa turned down the opportunity to audition). There seems to be Hollywood magic at work bringing the two men together, and that certainly only makes it more…

We’ve all had that feeling: when things are going really well in your life, you’re able to step outside your own body and assess the awesomeness of the whole situation in its totality. Having this kind of positive revelation is wonderful… though it can also lead to the unexpected blurting out of sentiment. This is a circumstance to which Hayley Atwell can evidently relate, as she had such a moment with Tom Cruise during the making of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.Atwell spoke about the experience during an interview this past summer with the Netherlands magazine Numéro. She was asked…
