Sophia Bush’s love of books is well-documented. The actress and activist (and entrepreneur, and podcaster, and… I lose track. Suffice to say that she wears many hats) often takes to her social media channels to recommend books she has read and enjoyed, and she often interviews her favorite authors on her podcast Work in Progress. Bush leaped to fame in 2003 thanks to her role as Brooke Davis in the teen drama One Tree Hill. Among other noteworthy roles, she’s also starred as Detective Erin Lindsay in Chicago P.D. and Dr. Sam Griffith in the recent Good Sam. Her filmography…

It’s June, and many libraries across the country are celebrating Pride month by putting up LGBTQ book displays. They’ve been common for many years, and now you can even see them in university libraries, school libraries, and even law libraries. In the past year, though, libraries have received a sudden increase in challenges and censorship attempts against LGBTQ books they carry. This month, a conservative group launched a program they call “Hide the Pride” that encourages people to check out all the books on Pride displays to “purify” libraries so that all the books on display match their conservative values.…

Jam Master Jay’s alleged shooter, now charged with the Run-DMC DJ’s 2002 slaying, wants his murder indictment dropped or a separate trial that’s severed from a co-defendant who previously spoke about the killing in Playboy magazine. In a new motion filed Monday in Brooklyn Federal Court, lawyers for Karl Jordan Jr. said his murder charges should be dismissed because the government waited too long to seek the August 2020 indictment with claims Jordan broke into Jam Master Jay’s Queens studio on Oct. 30, 2002, and opened fired as revenge for a cocaine deal gone bad. The lawyers said because of…

Weekend Update tackled the confirmation of new Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and Will Smith’s 10-year Oscar ban on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live. “Justice Jackson was honored Friday at a White House ceremony and said ‘We have come a long way toward perfecting our union,’ which is a direct quote from Ben Affleck’s proposal to J. Lo,” Colin Jost quipped. After touching on Mitch McConnell and Tom Cotton’s reaction to Jackson’s confirmation, Weekend Update noted that Barack Obama returned to the White House this week for the first time in five years, where he jokingly referred…
In Father Stu, star Mark Walhberg tackles the story of boxer-turned-priest Stuart Long, who went from destruction to redemption, inspiring many along the way. Based on true events, this faith-based film carries an R-rating, which is pretty atypical for movies of the genre. The cast members themselves pushed back against the sometimes-polarizing label, saying it’s a different kind of religious movie. Well, critics have screened the film, and the reviews are in to give us an idea of what to expect from Walhberg’s Father Stu. Rosalind Ross makes her directorial debut with the film, which also stars Mel Gibson as Stu’s…
Well, that was short-lived. Variety had reported on the rumor just yesterday that David Lynch was going to be bringing a secret new movie to Cannes this year, the scoop coming from “two well-informed sources.” The site even reported that Laura Dern would be appearing in the mysterious movie, but alas, Lynch himself has shot down the rumor completely. Lynch tells Entertainment Weekly today, “I have no new film coming out. That’s a total rumor. So there you are. It is not happening. I don’t have a project. I have nothing at Cannes.” “It’s unfortunate,” Lynch continues. “It got built…
