Learning to Forgive Everything But Your Name by Lara Rae Butler

What’s it About?

One woman must craft a new life for herself while avoiding the traumatic past trying to catch up with her.

He watched her every move. Hidden cameras at every turn. He monitored her time at the grocery store. He could tell when the cleanliness of his apartment was less than perfect. He knew when the wine was opened too soon. The extent to which he was a control freak was incredible. If an activity was a few minutes longer than normal, he would confront her: “Did you stop and talk to someone?”

A smack across the face elevates things to another, far more frightening level.

This is the setup for Rae Butler’s new thriller/romance fiction novel Learning to Forgive Everything But Your Name, whose dedication reads: “For every silent voice, their eyes scream for help. See and listen.”

So how did Susan get trapped in this relationship with Jackson, a wealthy, attractive businessman with the promise of a comfortable lifestyle? Was it worth the tradeoff of being a slave to his demands and desires, basically living a Stepford wife mentality but steeped in fear and subject to his manipulative nature? How long can she tolerate it?

Perhaps a better question is how can she get out of it?

AN ENGROSSING STORY

Events have a way of sorting themselves out. Something triggers Jackson’s anger. The two do battle. One thing leads to another. Susan is left beaten on the floor – and a turned-on oven burner causes a full-fledged fire. Susan is saved but remains in a coma for six weeks.

When she snaps out of it, she remembers her name and not much more. But it is necessary to give her a new life and identity to keep her distance from Jackson. She becomes Chloe May Brooks and will be living in Tennessee.

She finds herself in a welcoming community, with people who help her get back on her feet. Now the question is whether Susan (Chloe) will remain traumatized by her past and under the constant threat of being stalked by Jackson. Or will she be able to establish a new life for herself with new people and a new love interest?

Have we seen the last of Jackson? Her relationship and experience with him certainly left emotional and physical scars. But does he have one more card to play?

Lara Rae Butler has written more than an engrossing story about a woman in a troubled relationship. She has sounded the sirens to educate people on the hidden dangers of an abusive relationship with the constant threat of domestic violence. She shows how some women can fall prey to the bright lights, surface benefits and natural attractions – when the most important factor is recognizing the truth and being able to take care of themselves.

About the author:

Lara Rae Butler didn’t intend to become a writer, but life took a turn and she stumbled on the opportunity to discover a new passion. As her husband started to travel more, Lara had time to explore the world of stories. She started with stories of romance and mystery and channeled her emotions and expression of love into curating these stories. The result is this first novel.
