Halle Bailey’s White Slip Dress Is ’90s Minimalism at Its

Halle Bailey was one of the guests of honor at Variety’s star-studded Power of Young Hollywood event, and she dressed the part. The singer and actor attended the magazine’s soirée on Aug. 11 in Los Angeles looking radiant in a white August Getty Atelier slip dress. Bailey was one of four rising stars honored with a cover for the annual Variety issue, and the rest of the list include Angus Cloud, Becky G, and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham.

Bailey’s sophisticated outfit consisted of a floor-length racerback dress in a shiny satin material. The dress feels reminiscent of ’90s Calvin Klein designs, as well as Jennifer Lawrence‘s memorable red dress at the 2011 Oscars, which, incidentally, was also Calvin Klein. Bailey accessorized with a two-strand diamond necklace, emerald-cut earrings, and two statement rings, one of them resembling a feather. Her shoes were metallic heeled sandals hidden from view for much of the evening. Once inside the party, Bailey carried a silver metallic box clutch.

The minimalist look greatly differs from the strikingly surreal outfit she wore on the aforementioned Variety cover, which consisted of a green Joanna Prazmo bra-and-skirt set with architectural hip protrusions. “Pinching myself today,” Bailey wrote on Instagram when she shared the news. The editorial look felt like a modern take on mermaids, which is fitting since Bailey stars as Ariel in Disney’s forthcoming live-action retelling of “The Little Mermaid,” due next year.
