Tom Brady Calls Out ‘False Friends’ With Cryptic Post After

For the love of God, won’t somebody please get Tom Brady back on the football field?!

He’s got so much time on his hands in retirement that he’s now trying to pull a Khloé Kardashian with cryptic Instagram quotes. (Love ya, Khlo-money! Tom coming for your copyright on cryptic commentary is NOT COOL!)

Early on Thursday morning, the 45-year-old former NFL quarterback popped up on IG with a new Stories snap. The post was a screenshot of a famous passage written by literary giant Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Normally, that wouldn’t be much of a concern. Nothing wrong with quoting the greats! But in light of Gisele Bündchen‘s deep dive Vanity Fair feature piece first catching the public’s eye on Wednesday, the timing of Tom’s turn on IG — and the actual thrust of the content itself — is really interesting.

First, the quote. Waldo fans probably already know what it is!! Tom’s latest Stories share read like this:

“What is success? To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!”

Ch-ch-check it out for yourself (below):

<p>Hmmm…</p>
<p>“The betrayal of false friends,” you say?! Now <em>who</em> might that be about? Obviously, Brady doesn’t say — hence his move towards the <a href=patented Cryptic Khloé content. But we have one BIG idea! It’s all about that Gisele interview! Right??

Less than 24 hours before the former New England Patriots signal-caller quoted the “Buddha of the West,” his Brazilian-born ex-wife popped up in the pages of (and on the cover of) Vanity Fair. As we reported at the time, Gisele had a lot to say about life after Tom’s love. And she flatly denied relationship rumors with both jiu-jitsu Joaquim Valente and billionaire business mogul-slash-longtime Brady pal Jeffrey Soffer.

But TBH, Gisele was very conciliatory to Tom during her VF chat! As Perezcious readers will recall, she was quoted in the piece with a few nice comments, like this:

“If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s [Tom], believe me. I want him to achieve and to conquer. I want all his dreams to come true.”

And this:

“We’re not playing against each other. We are a team, and that’s beautiful. I look back and I have no regrets. I loved every bit of it.”

And even when talking about the divorce itself, she only went this far:

“When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together. As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things. … It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle.”

Like, come on. Those are pretty mature and well-intentioned as far as divorce comments go! So what is Tom’s “false friends” beef about then?? Is he just mad about his ex having her say in print? Or is it about something else entirely?! Guess we’re left to wonder for now…

Drop your reactions and speculations down in the comments (below), y’all!
