Tim Miller hit up Hall H at SDCC yesterday to announce that The Goon will finally be made into a film at Netflix. Eric Powell’s comic book was initially published in 1999. The comic was a major hit and for good reason, the world of the mob meets the supernatural with a grand noir tone really worked.
The Goon had even picked up attention from director David Fincher who attempted to make it into a film. Fincher even came up with a great proof of concept video that featured Paul Giamati in the starring role. The short was great. But, the feature-length film was never made.
However, with the recent Netflix series Love, Death and Robots by Miller and Fincher, it finally gave The Goon a chance once again.
Miller announced that The Goon is coming to Netflix with Patrick Osborne as the director this time around.
The synopsis for The Goon goes like this:
The series mixes both a comical and violent atmosphere with a supernatural slant, which pit the titular character against undead creatures/zombies, ghosts, ghouls, mutants, skunk-apes with an unnatural hunger for pies, giant squids, mob/gang leaders, extra-dimensional aliens, mad scientists and robots.
Fincher had been trying to get the feature made since 2008. So, this is a huge win for those of us who have been waiting for The Goon to finally get made.
We will be sure to keep you updated on all things related to The Goon. For now, we are just rejoicing that Miller announced that it is finally being made!
