studio 666 788x443 - John Carpenter Composed Theme For Foo Fighters Horror Film 'Studio 666' — Watch The New Red Band Trailer Now!

Even though Studio 666 arrives this Friday, it’s still a little mind-blowing that the Foo Fighters are putting out a scary movie. The supernatural horror-comedy is based on a story by Dave Grohl, who stars in this gory slapstick cornucopia alongside FF bandmates Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee.

We recently caught word that one of the biggest names in horror history is joining the project. Horror hero John Carpenter is now reported, by Grohl himself, to be composing the theme song for Studio 666. The Halloween director will also be making a cameo appearance in the film, to the total surprise of the band.

While promoting Studio 666, Grohl sat down with Deadline to share the big news. While the frontman seemed unconvinced Carpenter would agree to a cameo role via email, the rockstar decided to give it a try anyway.

Here’s what he had to say:

I totally blind cold emailed him and said, “Hi, my name’s Dave, we have a mutual friend, Dan Hadley. We’re making a horror film, wondering if you’d consider doing a cameo.” Little did I know that John Carpenter’s godson [and The Kinks’ Dave Davies’ son] is Daniel Davies. Daniel is in a band that we took on tour with us 15 years ago [stoner rock band Year Long Disaster]. John Carpenter responds and says, “because you treated [Daniel] so well on tour 15 years ago, not only will I make a cameo in your film, but I’ll also write the theme song.” It was the most incredible thing. I did not expect it. I could not imagine it. It happened and when he sent that song, we all got goosebumps. I mean, it can only be John Carpenter. Some people might hear it and think that just sounds like John Carpenter. It is.

Studio 666 features a star-studded cast, including recent breakout Scream queen Jenna Ortega, American Horror Story scene-stealer Leslie Grossman, comedy legend Will Forte, among others. The horror picture is the first-ever non-documentary to feature the Foo Fighters. The Evil Dead-esque title concerns the band as they attempt to produce their tenth studio album in a haunted studio. Soon they find themselves battling supernatural entities who have violence on the brain.
