Todd McFarlane’s long-awaited film, Spawn has gone through a lot of phases over the years. Luckily, the two things that haven’t changed are McFarlane’s interest in the film getting made and Jamie Foxx staying onboard waiting anxiously. Today, McFarlane announced that he has added both Scott Silver and Malcolm Spellman as writers for the Spawn movie.

Silver is known for his work on Joker and Spellman is known for his work on The Winter Soldier. Those are both incredible writers to add to Spawn. It combines Al’s mercenary nature with the hellish insanity that Malebolgia and The Violator bring to his life after death.

The hope is that these two writers come up with a great script. That combined with Jamie Foxx being onboard is hopefully enough to get the film greenlit and in production.

The synopsis for the 1997 Spawn film went like this:

Covert government assassin Al Simmons (Michael Jai White) is killed after being double-crossed by his boss, Jason Wynn (Martin Sheen). Upon arriving in Hell, Simmons is offered an opportunity to return to Earth if he’s willing to lead an evil army. He accepts, and is reincarnated as a “Hellspawn” — a twisted, horribly disfigured version of his former self. However, Spawn serves as a force of good, much to the dismay of the Devil’s henchman, a wicked clown (John Alberto Leguizamo).

It is crazy how hard of a time this film has had getting off the ground. It is well-known that McFarlane wants this film to be very much horror-oriented. Hopefully, Blumhouse is able to assist in getting it made as well.

Are you looking forward to McFarlane’s Spawn?
