A new political thriller hit Netflix on April 20th and the internet has yet to recover. This series is serving drama with a side of some of our favorite actors, some sarcastic commentary, and high-stakes decisions. This is why we’re happy to see the #1 show today is The Diplomat.
Synopsis
Kate Wyler is the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She was supposed to go to Afghanistan. She’s great in a crisis zone. In a historic home…less so. War is brewing on one continent and boiling over on another. Kate will have to diffuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London, and adjust to her new place in the spotlight — all while trying to survive her marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler.

The Diplomat was created by Debora Cahn. It stars Keri Russell, Pearl Mackie, Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, and Rory Kinnear.
Twitter is living for this chaotic show. Many viewers are in love with the cast and celebrating a Netflix original with three actors from the Ghanaian diaspora. However, lots of the excitement is for Keri Russell’s return to TV.

I’m watching The Diplomat (@netflix with Keri Russell who I love). She just gave the best line “how is this a $1600 dress?? It doesn’t even have pockets!” pic.twitter.com/CwDS9Hz1Wc

THE DIPLOMAT hits Netflix tomorrow and it’s fantastic. It’s got West Wing bones and it’s the best of its kind since that. Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell are perfectly matched and the supporting cast of Ato Essandoh, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Nana Mensah and Michael McKean rocks. pic.twitter.com/oGhBYFEDiH

#TheDiplomat – Witty, timely, thoroughly compelling with one of the best ensembles in recent memory, led by a reliably strong Keri Russell. The season finale cliffhanger sets up S2 brilliantly so hopefully Netflix will renew it soon. Emmy voters also better not sleep on this one. pic.twitter.com/ghLjexXV80

I highly recommend The Diplomat on Netflix. It’s about time there was a good show with actual good acting. Thank you.

BTW, The Diplomat on Netflix? Amazing show if geopolitics and spycraft is your thing.

A friend recommended “The Diplomat” to me on Netflix. Kerri Russell is always worth a watch. Terrific writing. Very funny. Rupert Friend is underrated and way underrused.

While most of us have been Keri Russell stans since Felicity, her most recent TV credit was the phenomenal FX show The Americans. While she’s constantly working in film (Cocaine Bear) there’s something about seeing her for at least 8 episodes at a time that makes the world a better place.
