Director, Rhys Frake-Waterfield is on a warpath on childhood films. We have been seeing a trend of certain films like Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, and The Grinch get horror takes on them. Next up for the director, he has set Bambi in his sights. According to Dread Central Waterfield’s future project is Bambi: The Reckoning. He will act as a producer on this one with Scott Jeffrey directing.
Recently, Quentin Tarantino called Bambi one of the most terrifying movies made. He has a point. Disney’s original cartoon is seriously a traumatizing experience. It will be interesting to see what Waterfield does with his take. It would be great to see Bambi and her mom be able to get some revenge.
The synopsis for Disney’s original Bambi film went like this:
In this Disney classic a young deer named Bambi joins his new friends, a rabbit named Thumper and a skunk named Flower, in exploring his forest home. As a boy, he learns from his doting mother and his father, The Great Prince of the Forest, that there are dangers in the open meadows where hunters can spot the animals, and he meets a beautiful young doe named Faline. As Bambi grows up, he learns that there is tragedy as well as beauty and joy in his forest world and on the path to adulthood.
“The film will be an incredibly dark re-telling of the 1928 story we all know and love.” Jeffrey told Dread Central. “Finding inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wilderness. Prepare for Bambi on rabies!”
