Co-creator and showrunner of Tales of the Walking Dead, Channing Powell has some big ideas for characters of yesterday. During the 6-episode anthology run, Powell has brought back Samantha Morton’s Alpha in order to tell more of her story.
The other five-anthology tales are made up of new characters and corners of the world we may not have seen yet. However, Powell admits that he considered bringing back more characters and still may do so in the future if the show does well. This is the same showrunner who had also considered the idea of bringing in a full-on musical episode of Tales.
For now, Powell decided to only bring back Alpha and further explore her story early on.
“There was something that really appealed to me about Alpha personally. I just love a great villain. I love a great villain that’s a woman and a mother, and you know, I’m a mother,” Powell told Comicbook.com. “Most of the time, I write about the apocalypse or watch anything on the apocalypse, I’m thinking, how would I handle this with my children? What would I do? Would, you know, would I ever become Alpha? So, it was really interesting to explore my own motherhood through hers.”

Alpha’s Tales of the Walking Dead episode airs on August 28.
Tales of the Walking Dead features a cast that includes Olivia Munn, Terry Crews, Parker Posey, Anthony Edwards, Poppy Liu, Jillian Bell, Loan Chabanol, Embeth Davidtz, Jessie T. Usher, Daniella Pineda, and Danny Ramirez.
Who would you like to see return for another Tale in the post-apocolyptic land of the Walking Dead?
I would personally totally dig a Tale featuring Gareth, the leader of the cannibals that Rick encountered at Terminus. It would be cool to see a Cannibal Holocaust, no holds barred, gruesome tale of how he became the leader of that group and to reveal how many folks they ate.
