Nickelodeon Studios has begun production on Snow Day, a movie musical adaptation of the 2000 film of the same name. Filming has commenced in Montreal, and the finished product is expected to arrive on Paramount+ later this year.

The new film will follow the plot of the original, which centers on siblings Hal (Ky Baldwin) and Natalie Brandston (Michaela Russell) during a surprise cancelled school day following a whiteout. Hal takes the opportunity to approach his crush Claire Bonner (Shelby Simmons), while Natalie tries to keep the Snowplowman (Jerry Trainor) from clearing away the snow so the fun can continue the following day. The rest of the main cast consisted of Chris Elliott, Mark Webber, Josh Peck, and Emmanuelle Chriqui.

“When the original Snow Day premiered in 2000,” said Zack Olin, Co-Head of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action in a statement (via Collider). “it showed kids everywhere that anything is possible when you believe in yourself. This new musical take on the classic will share that same timeless idea, with a fun modern spin for a new generation of kids on Paramount+.”

While the original film wasn’t loved by critics, it wound up being a box office success. Apparently, Nickelodeon sees potential in bringing Snow Day back for new audiences, enlisting Michael Lembeck (The Santa Clause 2, Friends) to direct the new flick. Samantha Martin (The Fairly OddParents: Fairly OdderDanger Force) is tackling the original music for the movie. Details of the cast have not been announced yet.
