The official trailer for PBS’ forthcoming series adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic novel Around the World in 80 Days has been released, starring Doctor Who alum David Tennant. The period adventure series is scheduled to make its debut on January 2, 2022.

The video, which you can check out below, highlights the action-packed journey of Tennant’s Phileas Fogg as he goes on an adventure of a lifetime along with two companions, Abigail Fix and Jean Passepartout. It also teases the obstacles they’ll face including an assassination attempt in order to prevent them from circumnavigating the world in 80 days.

Around the World in 80 Days is created and written by Ashley Pharaoh. It will be led by David Tennant (Jessica Jones) as Phileas Fogga, preposterously upper middle class, over-educated Englishman … [with] a childlike sense of wonder because he’s never traveled, and he’s never left London or his club.

“Following an outrageous bet, Fogg and his valet, Passepartout, take on the legendary journey of circumnavigating the globe in just 80 days, swiftly joined by aspiring journalist Abigail Fix, who seizes the chance to report on this extraordinary story.” reads the synopsis.

Joining Tennant are rising French star, Ibrahim Koma (Mother Is Wrong), who takes on the role of the mercurial Passepartout; an irrepressible chancer who falls into the role of Fogg’s “valet,” little knowing it will change his life forever; Leonie Benesch (The Crown) as Abigail Fix, the young journalist determined to make her mark in a man’s world and emerge from the long shadow of her British establishment father; Jason Watkins (The Crown) as newspaper editor Bernard Fortescue; and Peter Sullivan (Poldark) as Fogg’s old antagonist Nyle Bellamy.
