ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese spoke to Me Time stars Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg about the Netflix comedy, the themes of the film, and working with the legendary John Amos. The film is now streaming.
“When a stay-at-home dad finds himself with some ‘me time’ for the first time in years while his wife and kids are away, he reconnects with his former best friend for a wild weekend that nearly upends his life,” reads the logline.

Tyler Treese: Kevin, your character Sonny is focusing on his family, which is obviously a great thing, but parts of his life have passed him by, and he’s just trying too hard to be the super dad. So talk to me about like the script’s portrayal of work-life balance because that’s an issue everybody can relate to.
Kevin Hart: Well, I think it’s about not knowing that you’ve lost a piece of yourself. You know, in Sonny’s case, embracing fatherhood, the level that he has, his personal life has taken a major downfall. It’s not until it’s presented to him or brought up that he has some type of understanding of that. So when he does get an opportunity to kind of step outside of that world and have a little fun, that fun is a discovery. And as for anybody else in the world, that discovery can have peaks, hills, and valleys in it. And that’s what it does for Sonny, but ultimately, it ends in a place of great friendship and a nice alignment between him and a friend of old.
Mark, you’ve done some incredibly inspiring films lately, which have all been great, and this film has a lot of heart, but what was it like just getting to play Huck and go all out in a comedy?
Mark Wahlberg: It was so much fun. I mean, working with this guy, I don’t want to gas him up any more than he is already gassed up, but this guy is fantastic. And he is just a really nice guy, so to be able to go and cut loose after I just did, I had just done Uncharted. Then I came into this movie and it was just so much fun. I can’t wait to see the rest of the cast, there’s so many wonderful performances in this movie. I showed my family, they had no idea. I never told them about the intro to the character, that I was naked, just all my kids were just dying, laughing. It was a complete shock to them, but people are going to absolutely love this movie. I can’t wait because I know there’s going to be a lot of laughter, and [that’s] what the world needs, and this guy’s been providing so many laughs and keeping people entertained through the difficult times.

Speaking of laughter Kevin, you have the great John Amos in this film.
Wahlberg: Oh man, I never got to do no scenes with him. I was so pissed! [laughs]
How great was it working with him? He’s just a real legend.
You know what, a legend isn’t enough to define what he means to the craft, right? To acting in general. So look, I’m a guy, I’m 43-years-old. I came up watching him and embracing the world of dad that he presented on TV. To have him come…
Wahlberg: Thankfully, because you are, like myself, appreciating guys who have done it before.
Hart: Absolutely!
Wahlberg: I mean, my gosh, he’s got the greatest face in the history of television.
Hart: The way that it comes full circle is, he’s playing my father-in-law, while I’m playing the role of a father that’s trying to be a good father, but I’m bantering with one of the best father portrayals on television. I mean, it doesn’t get better than that when you talk about full circle life moments. We were lucky to get him, and at his age to still be doing it, to still remember lines, to still be present on set. That’s a big deal.
