New York-based actor Sal Rendino is keeping it real. Many of his contemporaries have long since defected to the West Coast, claiming Los Angeles and its environs as their home, but Rendino still ply’s his trade out of his New York base and wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s reflected, as well, in the sort of roles popping up throughout his 25+ year career. Rendino has built his name on playing flesh and blood human beings rather than superheroes and possesses the necessary talent to even go there if opportunity called.
A sampling of his recent work proves he’s bonafide. His role in the new Apple TV feature One Moment, premiering July 26th, puts him opposite Danny Aiello in his final screen appearance. The movie tackles a story many will relate to, older siblings faced with caring for a recently widowed father, and Rendino brings an immeasurable amount of class and distinction to his part. His acting in this work has already earned him a Best Supporting Actor award from the Long Island International Film Expo and its imminent debut on Apple TV will bring Rendino’s talents to a wide audience.
The impending premiere of his comedy/adventure with Denise Richards entitled The Junkyard Dogs is another important step-up for Rendino. He isn’t an actor who confines his talents to the narrowest possible range hoping that it pays off but, instead, has broadened his appeal to potential collaborators with his willingness to take on any role or script, so long as it is a quality project.
He’s further distinguished himself in roles as Mafia boss Vincent Gigante in the bio-pic Gotti and mid-20th century anti-war and environmental activist Abbie Hoffman in the critically lauded play David and Goliath in America. The latter role netted Rendino an Artistic Director Achievement Award for Best Actor in a Drama. His range is further shown with the plethora of parts he’s played on the small screen. Rendino’s recurring roles in series television giants such as Billions, The Blacklist, Royal Pains, two iterations of the Law and Order franchise, and Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are among countless other appearances he’s made over the last quarter century.
There’s undoubtedly more to come. Rendino exhibits the sort of steadfast dedication to his craft and solid work ethic that helps build long careers. The pretty faces and gimmicks invariably fade; the public is, of course, fickle. Sal Rendino has made his name on a much stronger foundation, however, and continues to add to a growing list of credits with the same artistic sensibilities as before informing each decision.
The aforementioned dedication and long experience make him ideal for nearly any role. He’s an athletic performer, as well, capable of convincing physicality that has the potential of enhancing any role. All of the tools are here. Investing time, attention, and money in Sal Rendino is an investment in the ultimate success of any production and his talents aren’t fading but, instead, growing with each new project and every passing year.
